A WORN CLUTCH AFFECTS EVERY GEAR CHANGE YOUR VEHICLE MAKES
The clutch is the mechanical link between your engine and transmission, and when it begins to wear, you notice it in every shift. Slipping under acceleration, difficulty engaging gears, a spongy or stiff pedal, and a clutch that no longer releases cleanly are all signs that your clutch system needs professional evaluation. At Dr. Fred's Transmissions, we inspect the full clutch assembly and recommend only what the condition of your vehicle actually requires.
CLUTCH REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT FROM TRANSMISSION SPECIALISTS
A clutch service is not simply swapping the disc and calling it done. The pressure plate, flywheel, throw-out bearing, and clutch hydraulics all contribute to how the system performs and wears. Our mechanics evaluate every component in the clutch assembly during inspection so that the repair addresses the full picture, not just the most obvious worn part

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I know if my clutch needs to be replaced?
Common signs include slipping under acceleration, difficulty selecting gears, a clutch pedal that feels spongy, overly stiff, or sits lower than normal, grinding during gear changes, and a burning smell after driving in heavy traffic or on inclines.
Does the flywheel always need to be replaced with the clutch?
Not always. We measure flywheel thickness and inspect the surface condition during every clutch service. If the flywheel can be resurfaced to within specification, that is the more cost-effective option. If it is cracked, heat-damaged, or below minimum thickness, replacement is recommended.
What is the throw-out bearing, and does it need to be replaced?
The throw-out bearing is the component that contacts the pressure plate when you press the clutch pedal. Because it is inexpensive and accessed during clutch removal anyway, we recommend replacing it as part of every clutch service to avoid a repeat labor charge if it fails shortly after.
How long does a clutch replacement take?
Most clutch replacements are completed within one to two days, depending on vehicle accessibility and whether additional components, such as the flywheel, require machining or replacement.
Do you warranty clutch repairs and replacements?
Yes. Qualifying clutch repair and replacement services are backed by warranty coverage. We explain all terms before any work is approved.
